Assorted Flowers (on cobalt, purple border with silver spirals) - 10", 12", and 15" Handpainted wooden bowls
Janis Childs first moved to the Florida Keys in 1979 looking for both an alternative artistic outlet and a refreshing locale to inspire her senses. This sentiment illuminates the colorful hues and metallic highlights of Janis’ work. Her original creations are both eclectic and beautiful while still remaining functional. Her unique and colorful patterns evoke a rich sense of artistry.
Janis started her artistic practice by selling painted clothing in local boutiques. In 1990 she joined the Island Arts co-op and started selling painted bowls at their retail location on Duval Street in Key West, FL. Later, she helped to found a second co-op called, Gallery Key West with six other artists. In 2005, Janis joined the SoDu Gallery and it is one of many places where she still sells her works today.
As a long time resident of Key West, Janis has consistently been an active member of the community. She is the president of the board of Womankind (a local women’s healthcare center) and recently joined the board of the Anne McKee Artist Fund.
